Falmouth Nature Preserve

This property includes 4.25 miles of trails that wind through a mixed forest of hemlock, beech, maple and birch. Two main trails lead to the Mill Creek tidal estuary and marsh. Most of the trails are flat with some slight elevation on the trails leading to the salt marsh. This is a great place for hiking, cross country skiing and biking. Dogs are allowed, but must be on leash to protect sensitive wildlife habitat. These trails are not wheelchair accessible.

There is a small, unpaved parking lot for eight cars located off of ME Route 88, about 1.5 miles north of the intersection of 88 and US Route 1. The address is 178 Foreside Road.

The road leading to the lot is very easy to miss. If you reach Preservation Drive, you've gone too far.

I would recommend taking the red trail, which loops down to the marsh. It's a scenic spot in all seasons, whether the estuary is frozen over or the marsh grass is alive with vibrant green.
